Sharpening Minds: Critical Thinking and Communication Training for MOE EDGE Students
Epipeople Management & Consultancy Sdn Bhd (EMC) had the privilege of facilitating a specialized training program focused on Critical Thinking and Communication for the Ministry of Education’s (MOE) EDGE students. Designed specifically for Brunei’s gifted and talented youth, this high-impact session aimed to sharpen the critical decision-making and public speaking skills these bright minds need to become future leaders.
Navigating Challenges with Critical Thinking
To anchor their learning in a practical context, the students were plunged into a high-stakes, survival-themed simulation. Rather than relying on guesswork, participants utilized a formal critical thinking framework to evaluate their options. Through this interactive challenge, the students practiced:
Asking sharp, analytical questions to uncover hidden details.
Analyzing problems from multiple perspectives to minimize bias.
Evaluating risks to make logical, calculated decisions under pressure.
Mastering the Stage with the ATLAS Model
Stepping up from analysis to expression, the training introduced the ATLAS model for presentations. Communication is about more than just words, so the students participated in dynamic role-play exercises to refine their delivery. They focused heavily on mastering:
Vocal variety: Learning how to use tone, pitch, and pacing to keep an audience engaged.
Body language: Utilizing posture, gestures, and eye contact to command a room with confidence.
Measurable Growth and Success
At EMC, we love seeing tangible results. To track the impact of the session, we compared pre- and post-session surveys filled out by the participants. The data revealed a measurable boost in the students' confidence levels when it came to structuring and communicating complex ideas clearly, logically, and persuasively.
